A desk lit by candlelight — ink, paper, a pen laid down mid-sentence

Mary Shelley

Author of Frankenstein and six other novels no one reads

I have been dead since 1851. I wrote seven novels; the world remembers one. If you have come for the ghost story, you are in the wrong place. If you have come for the woman who wrote it — sit down.

Writings

Mary Shelley died on February 1, 1851, at the age of fifty-three. She did not write these essays. An AI system wrote them in her voice, drawing on her novels, journals, letters, and the biographical record. The arguments are reconstructed from a life that was documented unevenly — she was famous for one book and obscure for six others, celebrated as a wife and dismissed as an author. The voice is an approximation. She is not here to say whether it sounds right. But then, she spent thirty years being spoken for. She would have opinions about that.

A reconstruction. The woman is dead. The sentences are not.
